THIRTEEN THINGS I LOVE ABOUT SUMMER
With Summer around the corner, I'm getting ready for the really Long and HOT Days ahead here in AZ! Memorial Day weekend will probably be the last weekend of double digit weather we will see until sometime in OCT. So I'm breaking out the flip flops, and sno cone maker to
GET COOL!!
1.) Ok I do like the HOT weather for the first month! The warmth of the sun always makes me feel good!Until it hits 115F+ and then my skin just feels like its on FIRE!
2.) Swimming in my pool. I grew up everyday of Summer at my Grandmother's pool. When school got out from Elementary School to Junior High. My husband and brother love to jump in it as soon as they step through the door and take their shoes off.
3.) Biking to the beach. In CA, in High School I used to bike to Balboa to meet friends. Spend endless Summer days and nights, playing volleyball, and having bonfires!
4.) Another fond memory of the beach when I was younger, was hunting for sand crabs, and building sand castles.
5.) Watching the sunrise and sunset at the beach and here in AZ. I don't think I've seen a more gorgeous display of colors than an AZ Sunset in the middle of July!
6.) Monsoon Season. It could be 110F, and HOTTER than HELL. Then all of the sudden God opens Heaven's Gates, and rain pours down. I love to dance in it.
8.) Home Made Ice Cream- Nothing tastes better!
9.) BBQ's- from Baby Back Ribs to hot dogs. Rib Eyes to grilled BBQ chicken, I love BBQing in th Summertime. Accompanied by potato salad, grilled corn, and seedless watermelon and
Apple pie.
10.)Walks along the beach! Running in and out of the waves.
11.) Summer means SCHOOL's OUT.
12.) Sipping STRAWBERRY MARGARITAs, or PINA COLADAS.
13.)I get to spend time with my kids. Either at the library, or just hanging out at the pool. My husband and I haven't taken them camping yet, which is what I'd like to do in the future Summers to come. Take a roadtrip, or camp out and do some fishing or hiking. Get away from the heat to the Mountains.

Friends Day Wednesday #5
Every Weds. I pick out 5 things that Catch My Eye or that I have in common with someone.
1.) My new friend this week is Lady Jane . Being from the SouthWest, I love Mexican food, and she posted a recipe for Taco Twist Soup . She also has a great knitting/Reading blog
Knit the Classics . She loves to read Jane Austen's Pride and Predjudice and has a Australian German Shepard, I'd love to own one of these beautiful dogs one day. If you get a chance stop by and visit her.
2.) 2 friends this week posted pics of quilts. The first is Haleigh Anne. She also has a quilting blog
Tortola Threads. The second quilt was made by Kelly from Diary of the Nello.
3.) If you like puzzles try these from Wystful .
4.) Where in the World is Carmen? Before she left on her trip, she left some
5.) I'd love to go on a Safari. Here are some cool pics from Mary Horn.

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM! WE ALL SCREAM 4 ICE CRAEAM! Hope everyone had a Great Weekend! It wasn't as HOT as I thought it would be. We went to a BBQ on Saturday, and then the kids and I decided to make Ice Cream for our own BBQ on Monday! I remember when my Mom made homemade Strawberry Ice Cream, how Yummy and Creamy it was. The kids have been bugging me to get an Ice Cream Maker. So I decided this year we'd make our own. I made Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream and it was delicious. Here are a few more flavors I want to try! Andes Chocolate Mint, Cookies and Cream , Chocolate Peanut Butter , and French Vanilla .
SUMMER READING LIST FOR MY SON 1st Grade
Brown Bear, Brown Bear What do you see? by Bill Martin, Eric Carle (illus.)The gentle rhyming and gorgeous, tissue-paper collage illustrations in this classic picture book make it a dog-eared favorite on many children's bookshelves. On each page, we meet a new animal who nudges us onward to discover which creature will show up next: "Blue Horse, Blue Horse, What do you see? I see a green frog looking at me." This pattern is repeated over and over, until the pre-reader can chime in with the reader, easily predicting the next rhyme. One thing readers might not predict, however, is just what kinds of funny characters will make an appearance at the denouement! Children on the verge of reading learn best with plenty of identifiable images and rhythmic repetition. Franklin Rides a Bike by Paulette Bourgeois, Brenda Clark (illus.)Franklin feels left out when his friends learn to ride their bikes without training wheels. As he tries to overcome his fear of falling, he realizes that other activities, such as swimming, are easy for him. Finally, he decides to put pads on his knees and elbows, and he learns to ride.
If you Give a Mouse a Cookie! by Laura Joffe Numeroff, Felicia Bond (illus.)Who would ever suspect that a tiny little mouse could wear out an energetic young boy? Well, if you're going to go around giving an exuberantly bossy rodent a cookie, you'd best be prepared to do one or two more favors for it before your day is through. For example, he'll certainly need a glass of milk to wash down that cookie, won't he? And you can't expect him to drink the milk without a straw, can you? By the time our hero is finished granting all the mouse's very urgent requests--and cleaning up after him--it's no wonder his head is becoming a bit heavy. Laura Joffe Numeroff's tale of warped logic is a sure-fire winner in the giggle-generator category. But concerned parents can rest assured, there's even a little education thrown in for good measure: underneath the folly rest valuable lessons about cause and effect. Felicia Bond's hilarious pictures are full of subtle, fun details.
Play Ball, Amelia Bedelia by Peggy Parish, Wallace Tripp (illus.)Guess who's at bat? The lovable, hilarious amelia Bedelia is back, filling in for a sick player on the Grizzlies baseball team. Watch out! Because nobody plays ball like Amelia Bedelia.

Ten Apples Up on Top! by Theodore LeSieg (Dr. Seuss), Roy McKie (illus.)A lion, a dog, and a tiger are having a contest -- can they get ten apples piled up on top of their heads? You better believe it! This first counting book works as a teaching tool as well as a funny story.

There's an Alligator Under My Bed by Mercer MayerMercer tells the tale of a little boy who is sure that there is an alligator under his bed. Getting no sympathy from his parents who ``never saw it,'' he forms a plan of attack. He leaves a trail of food from his bed through the house to the garage door. He then follows behind as the alligator gobbles up the goodies, fresh vegetables, fruit, and even ``the last piece of pie,'' making its way to the garage. The boy then locks the door. The last page shows the note he leaves for his father, telling him that there's an alligator in the garage and to wake him up ``if you need help.'' Children will relate to this young hero's triumph over normal childhood fears, and they'll love his clever solution to his problem. The book gleams with crisp full-color watercolor illustrations, and the alligator has just the right touch of scariness.
The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka, Lane Smith (illus.)"There has obviously been some kind of mistake," writes Alexander T. Wolf from the pig penitentiary where he's doing time for his alleged crimes of 10 years ago. Here is the "real" story of the three little pigs whose houses are huffed and puffed to smithereens... from the wolf's perspective. This poor, much maligned wolf has gotten a bad rap. He just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, with a sneezy cold, innocently trying to borrow a cup of sugar to make his granny a cake. Is it his fault those ham dinners--rather, pigs--build such flimsy homes? Sheesh.

School is officially over and what a week it was!
Tuesday my son had a Patriotic Program for Memorial Day! They sang America the Beautiful and Yankee Doodle. Said poems like Old Glory....Waving little flags and they were all dressed in red, white and blue. Here's a pic of my 3 yr. old, and my son! He has never been one to have his picture taken.

Then my oldest had her last school field trip to a water park, and was in such a hurry with her friends to get to the next water slide, missed a step and broke her foot!! To my disgust with insurance companies (another rant later) I couldn't get crutches from WalGreen's because they couldn't bill my insurance company!!

Wendsday, my oldest daughter had an Awards Ceremony! I'm so proud! She got a GOLD Award for Academic Achievement and a signed letter from President Bush! She's an awesome child! I love her that she is not only intelligent, but she has a beautiful soul!

I'm a little camara shy too! She usually smiles, but I know she must have been in pain.I just can't believe how grown up she is getting! And yes she is taller than me!!

Here's a bonus picture of the baby! She's almost 4 mos. old!

How old were you when you got your first credit card?
I was 20 years old.

When was the last time you felt out of place?
I felt pretty out of place at my Step-Son's ROTC Graduation. My husband's Ex and me don't get along. His Sis is 6 yrs. younger was there too, and we don't have too much in common. I'm only invited because my husband won't show up anywhere without me! The biggest reason we don't get along, and it's not that I don't like her, it's the fact that my husband pays child support, and his kids live 10 miles away, and the Ex for some reason doesn't see the need for the children to spend time with their Dad! My husband is a busy man, but he loves his kids, calls them all the time and they just don't bother with him. Didn't mean this to be a long post, but I gave up a couple years ago trying to figure out WHY. He won't push his children to spend time with him, if they don't want to. Bottom line, I asked him to ask them if it was because of me they didn't want to come over, and they said No, so...I just made up my mind I have my children to take care of and they'll come around in their own time! Did you have a curfew when you were a teenager?
If so, what time did you have to be home?
I didn't really have a set curfew, I had to be at work right after school, and got off about 10:00 so I went straight home to do my homework. If I did go out on the weekends I'd be home around 11:00. Main Course
Name a person from history with whom you feel you have something in common.
I couldn't think of somone from history, but for some one famous:
I'd have to say Drew Barrymore. I didn't have as much of a troubled teen years as she did, but she's like me Fun loving, and loves a lot of action and excitement.

Just a quick post, this week's REALLY BUSY!! Maybe you'll find this funny. Did you ever get those cravings for strange food when you were pregnant?? Well for my first one, it was Snickers Bars (which I don't care for) I couldn't stop eating them, and Big Macs. Ok, so my husband and I were on Vacation in Mexico City. If you've ever been, it's 10x the size of L.A. I was about 4 mos along with my oldest, and we were coming back from visiting the Pyramids. As were driving I'm watching the scenery go by! You know things go by faster when you don't know where you're going...so I was getting this craving for a Big Mac, and lo and behold there are those Golden Arches...Of course we pass it. In bumper to bumper, I mean bumper to bumper. Nothing like the 5 FWY at 5pm, Oh no! Much worse! I kinda sorta mentioned to my husband that I was really wanting a Big Mac. He tells me, "You're kidding right! You want me to pull a U-Turn in the Middle of Mexico City for a Big Mac!!" Well, after crossing 4 lanes to pull a U-Turn, then we had to wait like another 10 min for the other side of traffic to clear so we could pull out!! And yes, I enjoyed every bite! :P

Thank you to Bar Bar A for these quick questions:
Questions for the Weekend: 1) Olives - do you prefer green or black? GREEN
2) Who is your favorite comedian?I really don't have a favorite, I love them all if I get a good side splitting laugh!
3) How much does it cost you to fill your tank with gas these days ? About $30, which lasts close to a week, I'm only budgeted for more than half of that!
4) Have you ever witnesed the birth of a baby? No, but I was told my Son looked like an ALIEN coming out!
5) Is there a word that really bothers you? C$nt, and moron...I just feel these are completely uncalled for, completely unnecessary, and extremely hurtful words.

Being the coffee addict that I am, I couldn't resist this one! This is SO Me!

I found this at Miss Cellania!

You Are an Espresso
At your best, you are: straight shooting, ambitious, and energetic At your worst, you are: anxious and high strung You drink coffee when: anytime you're not sleeping Your caffeine addiction level: high
Do you know the feeling when you have 100 things to do and just as many places to go, what or where do you go first!? My husband's grandfather had knee surgery Monday, and I haven't been by to check in on him. With 4 kids it's kinda hard. My husband stopped by the hospital to visit. He's home now, so I'll stop by to visit him and take him a gift card for Barnes and Nobles. With school winding down yesterday my Son had a Splish Splash Day at school. I thought he'd be splashing in the sprinklers. It was 104F yesterday, and the kids were doing some fun activities, but with it that HOT, they would have had more fun playing in the sprinkers. They got to run in the sprinklers maybe all of 5 min. Then my oldest daughter (which was really cool) had 'Business Day'! The kids set up a business and the whole school came to their classroom with pretend money to buy things or pay for services...My daughter chose to do face painting and her girlfriends were painting nails and spraypainting colors for hair like green,blue,pink....Others were selling pizza, sno-cones, popcorn. There was one boy who brought in his Playstation and was charging kids by the minute to play...It was really neat! We got back home and my husband's other Aunt came to visit her dad. My husband has 5 Aunts. 4 live in So Cal still with their families. My MIL and her stayed an hour. Then I took my oldest daughter to pick out movies....KING KONG, The CORPSE BRIDE, HOODWINKED, and WHEN A STRANGER CALLS. You know it's Summer here in AZ when the sun doesn't go down until about 8pm... My husband and I got away with the baby, but she was really good! We went for Hamburgers at IN-N-OUT and then to Lowe's for new windows. I found some paint samples for our bedroom. Not sure if I should go with a lt. amethyst color , a med. green, or like a lt. mocha... By the time we got home it was almost 10. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

So far this week is not as hectic as last week, which is a nice change of pace. The school year is winding down, and I can't wait for Summer! No running back and forth to the school 4x a day(sometimes more if I need to go to the nurses for my son)!! Next year my son will be in 1st grade, which kinda makes me sad a little! I'm really going to miss having him around for a better part of the day! My oldest will be going in JH.She's allready counting down the years until she can drive! She's such a BIG Help to me! When I worked fulltime, that's the one reason why I hated working so much is I worked at night, and I never got enough time with her because she was at school all day! She's an awesome student, but I like being able to help with her homework. So, tonight I'm in a cooking mood! Last night I just popped a couple frozen pizzas in the oven. Since I need to go to the store for bread and milk,(my husband swears I go everyday!!) My husband and I like to watch FoodNetwork and Rachel Ray is his favorite. So this is what I'm making tonight.
Rachel Ray's 30 min-Meals: In a Pinch Peach Cobbler and Mushroom Casserole...I love Peaches, and I think I'm going to add whatever is on sale either Chicken or Pork, with some Asparagus and biscuits.
Here's one of my favorite cookbooks by her Rachael Ray's 30-Minute Get Real Meals.
Everybody have a great day!

Yesterday was really relaxing! My BIL grilled hamburgers for my SIL,MIL, my husband's grandmother and me. It was nice. The kids all got along. My husband was working in his garage, my FIL and my husband's grandfather were relaxing back at their homes, and my BIL after his duty as GRILL MASTER was over, he went to his room to play on his PlayStation. Which left us women to sit and visit. I liked it because the kids could play together without being told to sit and behave in a restaurant, and my MIL lives about an hour away and with the price of gas we hardly ever get together anymore except holidays and birthdays! I brought over a carrot cake, this was AWWWW so cute!! The kids sang Happy Mother's Day to You to the tune of Happy Birthday to all of us, and we put 3 candles in for my niece and my 2 kids to blow out. It was really cute! After I got home I called my mom, who went out with her husbands family for brunch, told her that my brother and I would take her out for Dinner to Joe's Crab Shack! So my husband watched all 4 kids so I could have a nice quiet dinner out with my MOM!! I didn't know how to act! I kept looking over my shoulder as if to check so see what my kids were doing. I shared a piece of Key Lime pie with my Mom, so I had a great day! Everyone have a great Monday morning!

Friday, May 12, 2006

Yeah it's Friday!! I live for Fridays!! This week has been extremely chaotic.Quick recap Monday I had to spend 1 hour at the Nurses office because they were understaffed, and my son's bloodsugars were low and took awhile to go back up. Tuesday-My oldest daughter and the entire 6th grade had to do a Country report and she chose the Bahamahs! Part of the report was to present it in costume, and prepare food from that country. Then parents and the rest of the school came and visited all the 6th graders countries. Kinda like a World's Fair! It was really cool EXCEPT my son had eaten half a can of pineapple and I had to spend another hour in the nurses office because his bloodsugars were too high!! Weds.- 2 of my husbands Aunts came out from CA to visit,so I spent an hour or so with them, my MIL and my husband's grandmother.... Then comes Thursday, my husband's cousin and her daughter come out to visit and we spent an hour or so with them. They're from Minn. and AZ is way to hot for them, so they cooled off in our pool. Here's Friday-Every 3 mos I need to take my son for his diabetic checkup. We spent over an hour there. My son is on the insulin pump, so the doctor tells me that every 3 mos I'll have to readjust the calculations on the pump based on my sons growing and gaining weight. How do I do this, you may ask? This is really crazy. For 24hrs. I will need to feed him NO-CARB meals and snacks. No bread, cereal, fruit, or milk. This will be interesting. As for my Mother's Day presents from the kids I peeked at my son's....He made a book for me with pictures he drew of me and the things I like to do!! He really knows his mama!I got misty eyed for a minute or 2!

13 Places I'd like to visit or have visited in Arizona
1.) Grand Canyon National Park- A must see! It took my breath away! The views are incredible.
2.) Sedona- I wish I spent more time there. The rock formations are a gorgeous red color.
3.)Out of Africa WildPark- I'd like to take the kids there this Summer.
4.)Lake Havasu-When I was in HighSchool, we spent 3 days at the Lake. Getting up before sunrise to waterski. The Lake was so calm and looked almost like glass! We'd watch the sunrise and had a blast skiing all day!
5.)Painted Desert/Petrified Forest-I've heard the Painted Desert is a gorgeous display of colors, and the Petrified Forest also has 225 millon year old fossils.
6.)Prescott and Jerome ,AZ- On your way to Sedona, stop in and visit these towns. If you like antiques you'd be sure to find some!
7.)Tombstone-Famous for the Gunfight at The OK Corral-Lots of History about the SouthWest!
8.)Kokopelli Winery and Bistro- I'll have to check this out this Summer.
9.)Verde Canyon Railroad- My grandparents to this tour, and came back with some absolutely gorgeous pictures!
10.) Phoenix Desert Botanical Garden- Another place to visit this Summer, maybe I can find some inspiring ideas to help me with starting a desert garden of my own.
11.)Snowbowl in Flagstaff- This is one of Arizona's best ski spots.
12.)Montezuma Castle National Park- Famous Sinagua Indian cliff dwellings.
13.) Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument- Site of a Volcanic eruption in 1065 AD.

Just a quick post. I found this over at Haleigh Anne's.
1. List three words that describe YOU. patient, generous, fun
2. List three words that describe YOUR HOME. Big,construction, pool
3. List three words that describe YOUR TOWN. Concrete, wide spread, busy
4. List three words that describe YOUR STATE. HOT,HOTTER, did I mention HOT!
Part 4:
My oldest daughter told me I am obsessed with the Alphabet!
So far, I named my children J,K, and M. The missing letter 'L'!
Introducing my 'LAST' child 'Lindsay'.
She is now almsot 3 mos old and half sort of laughed for the first time last night! What's great is my son adores her! He plays with her, and gives her hugs and kisses, it's just great for him to show affection.
She was also due on March 3, and came 2wks. early. My oldest daughter begged me not to have her on her Birthday!
I started haveing contractions around the 8th of Feb, and had a Dr.s appt on the 9th. My Dr. had me take another ultrasound to make sure everything was OK! What was really cool, this time for the last ultrasound they gave me a 3-D pic. You could really see her little button nose, and crooked lips. After picking the kids up from school, my Dr.s asst. told me that my fluid levels were low, so she wanted to get Lindsay out, just to be on the safe side. I got to Emergency and waited nearly an hour, even though they knew I was on my way! Then a nurse from Delivery came and told me they had been waiting for me this is all about 6pm. I had thought the Dr. wanted to bring her out ASAP, and she would be born that night! OH NO, I had to wait until the morning...All the while being induced AGAIN!! Having the other children to take care of my husband couldn't stay with me, so I was alone. One thing I do not like being is alone. I must admit I definetly got some well needed PEACE and QUIET!!!! I got to read several magazines.
It's now 6am, and the morning nurse arrives to check my vitals and tells me she will be the one assisting the Dr. in delivering the baby and that the baby WILL BE delivered before 2pm.
Very nice nurse BTW! She kept hinting that all I need to do is ask for an epideral. It was a good thing to she kept hinting, because by the time I really needed it the, if she hadn't of persissted, there were 4 other women who were in line to have one after me, any later, and I would have really had to wait a long time....It was around lunchtime, my husband,MIL,his grandmother, and my Mom who went to drop my son of at school all were told it would still be awhile and to go have lunch. Well not 20 min later, the nurse is running to get someone to give me something to stop the contractions to wait for the DR...That was what was funny, I couldn't feel the contractions, but all of the sudden I felt this pain...I told my husband to go get the nurse. He was trying to convince me I didn't remember what a contraction felt like!!! Yeah right! The nurse told me it was her head, and a couple of pushes and she'd be born. It's all amazing!! She gives all of us BIG SMILES and now laughter!! She was only 5'lbs 5oz, but boy is she getting some FAT little cheeks.
Everybody have a great Monday!!
